the War on Drugs

Just how much more money are we going to throw away on a program that in 40 years hasn't worked. Our southern border is the illicit drug equivalent of the Spice Road. We need to decriminalize drugs and release the hundreds of thousands of citizens that are in prison for drugs. Let's put the cops back to work protecting us from violent criminals instead of violating our rights to our property and freedom from unwarranted searches. At least with Prohibition there was an amendment starting that stupidity, but the War on Drugs was created by Richard Nixon's Presidential Fiat. All that has happened since has been a complete waste of time and money, because the problem of drug use is still there and if anything it has gotten worse. Yet the Federal government pisses away billions of dollars every year on this Black Hole. Stop already we can't afford it anymore. If the Netherlands is any example when they decriminalized drugs, the drug abuse rate dropped, the criminal arrests dropped (obviously), the drug trade actually dropped. I don't know if we would have the same results but if we took the money thrown away on arresting otherwise innocent citizens, we could put that money into dealing with drug education to reduce it even more. For some reason Human beings have this fatal attraction to things just because we can't have them. Remove the allure and the temptation takes a big hit.

Just my 2 cents.
